What I Like About Working at Whitcraft
What I like most is the people. We’re serious about what we do here, but we do it in a relaxed, friendly, and family environment. We have an open door policy. What that means is just what it implies; we encourage employees to come in and talk, we keep the doors open to any questions or concerns. We are flexible with what our employees’ needs are. One of the ways we do this is with our employee fulfillment team where we meet every month to talk about improvements.
We’re very health conscious and supportive. We do a health clinic with health screenings, keep fresh fruit in the building, and have $10 massages. We also participate in a number of relays and runs, and we hold several blood drives throughout the year. Our customers have commented on what a nice environment we have here, and that goes back to the people who make this place what it is.
About My Job and Me
I’ve been the Vice President and General Manager for the last four years, and my top priority is to make sure we keep the 350 employees we have at this location and our customers happy. I try to keep the people here energized and focused on satisfying our customers. This is the way I ensure our customers get not only what they need, but how and when they need it.
My other main responsibility is to the environment. We’ve been working to maintain a low carbon footprint, recycle water, reduce pollution, as well as use less paper and recycle what is used. Part of our environmental stewardship was putting a white roof on the building to keep it cooler and use less energy.
Personal Note
I like to bass fish competitively – I’m not that good, but I enjoy being on the water and visiting different lakes throughout Connecticut.
